Born in Melbourne, Australia, Downtown Vancouver is Lucy Maloney’s chosen home.
After earning a law degree and an MBA, and building a career in both the public and private sector, Lucy decided to focus on raising her family. They settled in a rental home in the West End, two minutes from her children’s public school. After they were forced to move due to renovations, she and her kids started to bike to school. And that experience taught them that not everyone's housing is stable, and not everyone's commutes are safe.
So she started to advocate for safe routes to school for her kids, and kids across Vancouver. First as the Chair of the Lord Roberts PAC, then as an advocate with the Vancouver DPAC - and finally as a fighter for safe streets with Vision Zero Vancouver.
In Vancouver, homelessness is rising and rent is too high. And Mayor Ken Sim barely shows up for work. When he does, he makes immensely damaging decisions that just make everything worse.
So Lucy is taking her fight to City Hall. On April 5, elect Lucy Maloney: a champion for affordable homes, safe streets, safe communities and a city where workers, elders and children all belong.

I’m running for City Council with OneCity, to help build a Vancouver that everyone can afford, where everyone feels safe, and where everyone belongs.
I’m so proud to call Vancouver home. And like a lot of people in our city, who might have come from China, or the Philippines, or South Asia, or Australia - this is my home, the place where I’m raising my family.
After getting a law degree and an MBA, and pursuing a career in environmental law and business, I decided to focus on family.
When we moved to Vancouver, we settled in a rental apartment in the West End, two minutes from Lord Roberts Elementary, my kids’ public school.
We were forced out of that apartment when our landlord decided to renovate. And we had to move.
My kids and I decided we would bike to school - and discovered that not all commutes are safe. So I fought for a safe route to school - and won. And I’ve fought for safe routes to school for kids across Vancouver with DPAC, and for safe streets with Vision Zero Vancouver. That experience has taught me a very important lesson:
If we have a city council that listens to people and tackles the problems we face, we can have affordable housing and safe communities.
If we have a city government that doesn’t listen to people and makes damaging decisions - we get the opposite.
Unaffordable, unstable housing and unsafe streets. Sound familiar? People are stretched. They can’t afford to live. They’re being pushed out. Amid these crises, what’s Vancouver’s mayor doing?
I’ll tell you what he’s not doing.
He’s not working for you.
Ken Sim barely shows up for work. In fact - he’s missed a third of votes at Council. When he does bother to show up, it’s to make decisions that damage our city. Like tearing down temporary modular housing. Like abolishing Vancouver’s Renter Office. And failing to redesign dangerous intersections to make them safer.
We were promised a competent and compassionate government in 2022. We all remember it: 100 police officers, 100 mental health nurses. Well, what happened to those 100 nurses?
We only got 12.
Ken Sim isn’t working for us. He doesn’t listen to the community. He doesn’t listen to his own caucus. He only listens to his friends - some of whom own a lot of property in the Downtown Eastside.
We need leaders at City Council who can stand up to Ken Sim and his broken promises. And who can stop him from doing more damage.
With progressive leaders at the table, we can keep winning. I want to fight for you. I want to make your concerns a priority in City Hall. I want to call out those broken promises. And shine a light on the Mayor’s bad decisions. I want to build on the achievements of Christine Boyle, who did all those things so magnificently.
Which is why I’m running for City Council with OneCity Vancouver.
We need leaders who listen to people, understand the challenges they face, and act.
