Teresa Wat was elected MLA for Richmond Centre in 2013, 2017, 2020 and will be seeking re-election in Richmond-Bridgeport in the next provincial election. She currently serves as Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism, Anti-Racism Initiatives, Arts and Culture.

Previously she served as Shadow Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Multiculturalism.

Since 2017, Wat has served as Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism and as a member of the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth.

From 2013 to 2017, she served as the Minister of International Trade, and Minister Responsible for the Asia Pacific Strategy and Multiculturalism. She also served as a member of the Cabinet Committee on Strong Economy and the Priorities and Planning Committee.

Before entering politics, Teresa was News Director at Channel M Television (now OMNI TV) and was instrumental in the launch of the first-ever live Cantonese, Mandarin, and Punjabi daily television news programs in British Columbia. She was also the News Editor of Ming Pao Daily News, and the President and CEO of Mainstream Broadcasting Corporation, a multicultural broadcasting station. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1989, she worked extensively in the communications industry in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Wat has been honoured with the Grand Officer of the Order of the Crown, one of the highest decorations from the Kingdom of Belgium, as well as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award for her community service. She was also previously named one of BC’s top 100 most influential women by the Vancouver Sun, and one of Greater Vancouver’s top 33 most outstanding Chinese Canadians by Sing Tao Daily Vancouver.
