Biography

from their website

Originally from the UK,David and his wife, Sue, fell in love with Newfoundland during a visit in 2002 and moved permanently to Trinity East in 2009. Together, they established Two Whales Coffee Shop in Port Rexton—an important community hub and supporter of local arts, tourism, and sustainability. Earlier this year, David and Sue retired and transitioned the business to a staff-led co-operative—ensuring it’s legacy continues in the community.

David brings a wealth of diverse experience to public service. In the UK, he worked as a secondary and university-level teacher, a healthcare professional, a software engineer, and a tai chi instructor. He has always been a passionate environmentalist and a committed advocate for social justice and community development. In Newfoundland, David quickly immersed himself in local life—volunteering as a firefighter for 15 years, serving as fire chief for two, and playing the bodhrán at countless kitchen parties and fundraisers. He’s also a keen organic gardener, cyclist, and builder—designing and constructing his own eco-friendly saltbox home.

Recognizing the urgent need for affordable housing, David has co-founded a non-profit housing association in Port Rexton. With support from federal and provincial grants, this major project is now in the design development stage and should see shovels in the ground by next year.

David believes politics should be rooted in action, integrity, and community leadership. With a proven record of rolling up his sleeves and getting things done, he’s ready to represent the people of the Bonavista Peninsula with energy, experience, and heart.
