“Our government needs to make life healthier and affordable so people can stay in the communities they love.”

Rebecca Haber is a parent, public health professional and longtime East Vancouver resident who has called the community home for 17 years. Her work and community involvement are grounded in helping people stay healthy throughout their lives and building communities where families can afford to stay and thrive.

Rebecca has more than 15 years of experience in public health and an academic background in biology and public health, with science degrees from McGill University and the University of British Columbia. Her professional experience includes programs supporting pregnancy and early childhood health, children’s physical activity and arts, immunization and community wellbeing.

Outside of her professional work, Rebecca is active in community gardening and community rugby and helps run her family farm in Burnaby. She also serves on the board of an East Vancouver community garden and has participated in volunteer initiatives supporting farmers markets and participatory action research.

Family and community are central to Rebecca’s decision to run. Over the years, she has watched friends and neighbours leave Vancouver because of the difficulty of building an affordable life in the city. She believes government should help create healthier and more affordable communities where people can continue to live close to their families, friends and support networks.

Rebecca is also an advocate for proportional representation, inclusion and anti-racism. She believes effective leadership means listening, learning and working collaboratively with others to make decisions and find solutions.

Rebecca is running in Vancouver-Renfrew to advocate for affordable housing, clean energy, childcare, strong public services and a healthier future for children and families across British Columbia.
