Dr. Morris Anthony Beckford

Community Leader, Educator, and Advocate for Equity and Public Healthcare

Morris isn’t just another name on the ballot—he’s an immigrant from Jamaica whose family came to Canada 30 years ago with almost nothing. He's been in the trenches, rolling up his sleeves for over 20 years in the non-profit and social services world.

As someone who lives and breathes community work, Morris has made it his life’s mission to challenge the unfairness that hold people back and lift up the voices so many people ignore. His approach is built in fairness, respect, and the belief that every single person’s story matters!

As the Associate Dean for the School of Social and Community Services and the School of Deaf and Deafblind Studies, Morris has proven that leadership isn’t about sitting behind a desk—it’s about building bridges, working for those on the margins, and making sure education, healthcare, a home and opportunity are accessible for everyone. But his work doesn’t stop there. Whether he’s leading a grassroots initiative like Brandedto.ca or brainstorming innovative programs at George Brown, Morris has always put people first.

Morris doesn’t just talk about fairness and justice—he lives it. From fighting for strong public healthcare to pushing for better wages, affordable housing, and youth programs, his work is deeply rooted in the needs of everyday folks. And he’s not afraid to call out injustice where he sees it, sparking honest conversations and amplifying the voices of those who often go unheard.

Now, Morris is ready to take that fight to Scarborough—Rouge River. He’s got a PhD in Leadership, but more importantly, he’s got the heart, the experience, and the drive to tackle real issues and find real solutions. Morris isn’t just running to represent the community—he’s running to work alongside it, ensuring everyone has a fair shot at a better future.

Reason for running

Protect. Public. Healthcare

Without public healthcare, we’d be in big trouble. Near the end of the pandemic, my appendix ruptured, and I was rushed to Mississauga Hospital for emergency surgery. The doctors and nurses took amazing care of me, and when I left, my bill was just $45. In other countries without public healthcare, I might not have made it—or I’d be drowning in debt. That’s a big reason why I’m stepping up in politics.

But healthcare isn’t the only thing at risk. Schools are falling apart, and post-secondary education is in crisis. Every time I talk to people, I hear about rising crime, youth struggling to find jobs, and families not getting the support they need. That’s why I know I made the right choice to get involved.
