Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
I’m Sheelah Donahue and I live in Whytecliff where my husband and I raised our three sons. I was first elected as a trustee in 2014 and I am currently Vice-Chair of the School Board serving students and families from Lions Bay, Bowen Island and West Vancouver.

My interest in education governance began as a parent at Gleneagles Elementary, where I saw firsthand the importance of ensuring parents’ voices are heard. I later joined the Rockridge PAC executive and served as Co-Chair, followed by being elected President of the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC), representing parents across our three communities.

Since first being elected to the School Board in 2014, I have served on numerous local, regional and provincial trustee committees. These roles provide opportunities to advocate for students, families and staff, bring additional resources into our education system, and work toward positive changes for our schools.

I’m running for re-election because our students deserve an excellent educational experience, with opportunities that prepare them for the paths they choose in life. West Vancouver is recognized for the strength of its public schools, and I want to help ensure that success continues. Throughout my time as a trustee, I have worked to support strong learning environments for all students, including those with diverse needs and English language learners, and I look forward to continuing that work.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
As one of only two incumbents running in this election, I feel it’s important to maintain momentum while new trustees learn the work. This is particularly important to me given the current political and economic challenges facing the education sector.

Provincial advocacy is one of the ways we can make a real difference for local students and staff, and I have the experience and enthusiasm to do this work on behalf of our district. Our administrators are leaders in their field, helping us attract excellent teachers, many of whom have been recognized by their colleagues across the country. Despite limited resources, we have built a culture that encourages innovation and excellence, and I believe my experience and track record can help contribute to that continued success.
