Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
West Vancouver resident, mother, homeowner and business owner. Sylvia Olson is running to put residents first, protect our community’s character, support seniors and our police, and bring fiscal responsibility — including property taxes — and accessibility to Council.

Sylvia Olson is a West Vancouver resident, mother, homeowner and business owner who believes local government should be accessible, responsive and focused on the people it serves.

She is running for Council because she believes residents deserve representatives who listen, communicate clearly and are willing to help people navigate municipal government — whether the issue involves permits, development, parks, services or simply understanding how to get something done.

Sylvia’s priorities include responsible municipal spending, protecting the character and livability of West Vancouver, supporting seniors, maintaining strong community safety, improving permitting and simplifying processes where possible, and taking care of the services residents already rely on before adding more.

She believes growth and change need to be thoughtful and well managed, with residents having a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their neighbourhoods.

Above all, Sylvia wants to bring a residents-first approach to Council: listening carefully, asking questions, making practical decisions and being available when people need help.

West Vancouver is already a remarkable place to live. Sylvia’s goal is to help protect what makes it special while making local government work better for the people who call it home.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I’m running because West Vancouver deserves a Council that listens, is accessible and puts residents first. I want to protect what makes our community special, support seniors and police, and bring careful, responsible decision-making to property taxes and spending.

I’m running for West Vancouver Council because I believe local government should be accessible, responsive and connected to the people it serves.

Residents should feel that their concerns are heard and that they can reach their elected representatives when they need help navigating municipal issues. Whether it is a question about permits, development, parks, services or property taxes, people deserve clear communication and thoughtful consideration.

I want to protect the character and livability that make West Vancouver such a special place to call home, while making responsible decisions about how our community grows and changes.

My priorities include supporting seniors, maintaining a strong West Vancouver Police Department, taking care of the parks, infrastructure and services we already have, and bringing careful fiscal oversight to municipal spending and property taxes.

Most importantly, I want residents to know they have someone on Council who will listen, ask questions, be accessible and put the community first.
