Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team

David Yang is a public sector professional in the BC Public Service and has lived in Richmond for more than 15 years. Growing up in an immigrant family, David attended Cook Elementary and MacNeill Secondary before completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia in 2020.

As a former student in the Richmond School District, David served as a SD38 Student Ambassador and a Richmond Green Ambassador, advocating for student & youth issues such as student voice, climate change & sustainability, and student mental health support. He has also previously served as a member of the BC Youth Parliament and as Student Council President.

Outside of work, David enjoys spending time volunteering in his local community with organizations such as the Richmond Sister City Advisory Committee and Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives. He has a passionate love for the game of hockey and volunteers as a coach for the Richmond Minor Ball Hockey Association.

David is running for Richmond School Board because he believes that Richmond deserves a progressive, equitable, and inclusive public school system for all students, regardless of their identity or ability. This means making decisions that best support students, especially those who face greater challenges in and out of the classroom, so that all students have an opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. David is committed to defending public education from chronic underfunding and seeking innovative ways to improve the wellbeing of learners, educators, and everyday residents.
