They may still in the future!
Biography
Born in Scarborough and raised in Agincourt, Jean Yip has represented Scarborough-Agincourt since 2017.
A powerful advocate, during the recent redistribution of electoral boundaries, Jean successfully fought to retain the Scarborough-Agincourt riding and identity — so Scarborough now continues to receive strong representation through 6 ridings, rather than the proposed 5.
Jean stays in touch with constituents through monthly coffee chats, Scarborough-Agincourt youth and seniors councils, and regular roundtables with stakeholders, religious leaders and the business community. Her newsletters and monthly e-updates keep constituents informed of her work and provide valuable information about issues, federal funding opportunities and benefits, public consultations, and job opportunities.
Jean continues to work tirelessly with government and community partners on the Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre, which broke ground in June 2023, with $26.7 million in federal funding thanks to Jean’s advocacy. She was able to secure an additional $9 million for the project in 2025.
In Parliament, Jean serves as Vice-Chair of Public Accounts and is a member of the Special Committee on Canada-China Relations. She is founder and Chair of the Liberal Chinese Caucus, and previously served as Co-Chair of Seniors Caucus.
Jean has also been a member of many parliamentary friendship groups, including ones related to Canada’s relations with Armenia, Philippines, Italy, NATO, Greece, Africa, and the All-Party
Cancer Caucus. In November she introduced Motion-171 to recognize December as Canadian Christian Month. Jean has spoken in the House on many issues including affordability, community safety, youth employment, seniors (benefits/LTC), housing, small business, anti-Asian racism, Hong Kong immigration, and support for those impacted by cancer.
Jean was raised in Canada by immigrant parents who valued hard-work and family – values she now instills in the three sons she raised with her late husband, Arnold Chan.
Jean looks forward to continuing to serve the Scarborough-Agincourt community.
