Biography
Alexandra Bercea is a Kamloops parent, clinical leader, counsellor and community professional with more than a decade of experience across mental health, addictions, trauma, program development, grant writing, funding proposals, policy and procedure development, Indigenous and community services, and organizational leadership.
Her professional background includes national clinical leadership, residential and outpatient addiction treatment, child and family services, frontline counselling, multidisciplinary team leadership, program design, quality improvement, policy development, accreditation readiness, and work with Indigenous communities and community organizations.
She has also developed programs and educational resources, supported grant and funding applications, contributed to service planning, and worked with organizations to strengthen systems, policies and access to supports.
As a parent, Alexandra brings both a professional and personal perspective to public education. Her areas of focus include student safety and wellbeing, mental health supports, literacy, numeracy and attendance outcomes, support for educators, communication with families, and responsible governance.
She is running for School Trustee to bring her experience in people, programs, policy and organizational leadership to the board table while listening closely to students, families, educators and the wider community.
Reason for running
I am running for School Trustee because I believe strong public education depends on leadership that listens carefully, asks good questions, and keeps students at the centre of decision making.
As a parent, I see education through the eyes of a family navigating the school system. Professionally, I have spent more than a decade working in mental health, addictions, trauma, child and family services, program development, grant writing, policy development, and organizational leadership. I have worked with multidisciplinary teams, Indigenous and community organizations, and complex systems where good decisions require both evidence and an understanding of the people those decisions affect.
I want to bring that perspective to the School Board.
My priorities include student safety and wellbeing, stronger literacy, numeracy and attendance outcomes, access to mental health supports, meaningful communication with families, support and professional trust for educators, and responsible governance.
Most importantly, I want students, families and school staff to feel that their experiences matter and that leadership is connected to what is actually happening in classrooms and communities.
That is what Leadership with a Human Perspective means to me.
