Businesses & Jobs

Business Permitting

I promise to streamline and speed up the process of business permitting in Kelowna

Economic Growth

Kelowna needs to provide a stable and predictable environment for existing and future business investment in our city. Housing affordability plays a significant role in where businesses decide to locate.

Government Procurement

We need a commitment to a "Local First" procurement policy - prioritizing local suppliers and businesses

Jobs for young people

Bring together local chamber of commerce, post secondary institutions and investors to ensure we are providing appropriate job training for local youth

Small Businesses

Small business is the backbone of any community. We need to give them a secure and predictable environment and communication corridor to City Hall

Tourism

We need to promote Kelowna abroad as a 12 month a year destination, not simply a summer getaway

Climate Change, Heat, Fires, & the Environment

Private Vehicles & Parking

Commitment to every condo unit having adequate parking for every unit

People with cars are currently purchasing units without parking to save money and then parking their vehicles on roadways, taking valuable public parking away

Walking & Cycling

I support keeping Kelowna a walkable and bikeable city

However, bike paths must not be located in areas where they contribute to current traffic congestion. I prefer to see the City work at connecting bike "trails" currently used, such as the Rail Trail and Mission Creek Causeway

Zoning

Commit to gentle densification of existing neighbourhoods, with higher density allowed along transit corridors
Gentle densification within existing single family neighbourhoods should favour carriage houses over multi-plex units
Encourage gentle densification in order to minimize urban sprawl

Housing & Homelessness

Homelessness

Provide City owned land for shovel ready projects for transition and supportive housing partnerships with BC Housing
Ensure these transition and supportive housing units are fairly distributed throughout the city and not focussed an any particular neighbourhood

Housing Prices & Supply

Streamline development application process to bring more housing to the market sooner and cheaper
Review how DCCs are calculated on multi unit developments - move from a "per door" fee to a "square footage" fee system
Grow the "Missing Middle" housing model - providing more townhomes, multi-plexes and garden apartments
Aggressively lobby Federal Government for improvements to the FHSA - significantly increasing current limit from $40K
Aggressively lobby Federal Government to extend mortgage amortizations to 40 years

Property Taxes

We need to commit to keeping tax increases capped at the rate of inflation
For most families, taxes in all forms represent their biggest household expense. Leaving $ in people's pockets goes a long wat to addressing affordability

Local Government, Planning, & Democracy

Mental Health, Drugs, & Addiction

Mental Health Crisis Response

Critically important and I support mental health professionals working alongside police and City Bylaw officers

Public Drug Use

Zero tolerance. It's a $230 fine for consuming alcohol in public, yet we accept open use of hard drugs in our City

Treatment for Addiction

We need to partner with Interior Health to increase the capacity of our mental health and addictions treatment beds

Public Safety & Policing

Roads, Transit, & Getting Around

Private Vehicles & Parking

Commitment to every condo unit having adequate parking for every unit

People with cars are currently purchasing units without parking to save money and then parking their vehicles on roadways, taking valuable public parking away

Roads

Increase capacity of our roadways in order to reduce traffic congestion, a problem that has become critical in Kelowna
Improve intersection capacity throughout the city
Improve timing of traffic lights to keep traffic flow moving along major corridors such as Hwy 97, Springfield Rd and Enterprise Way

Traffic Safety Around Schools

I propose photo radar for ALL school zones in order to improve road safety and free up valuable police resources for other duties tied to Kelowna's crime epidemic

Transit Projects

Improve transit throughout the City with the goal of giving people a viable option of using transit over personal vehicles
I support the use of "express" busses between high volume destinations

Walking & Cycling

I support keeping Kelowna a walkable and bikeable city

However, bike paths must not be located in areas where they contribute to current traffic congestion. I prefer to see the City work at connecting bike "trails" currently used, such as the Rail Trail and Mission Creek Causeway

• 30 yrs self-employed: Fiscal accountability
• 4+ yrs Aux. RCMP Constable: Hands-on street safety insight
• 10 yrs Independent mortgage broker: Real estate & family finance balance
Ready to work for a safer, affordable, and well-managed Kelowna.

Born in Vancouver and raised in the Cariboo, I pursued Political Science at SFU and UFV before spending decades building a diverse background in business and public service. My experience ranges from serving as an RCMP Auxiliary Constable to small business ownership, including owning a carpet cleaning company and managing grocery operations abroad in Jamaica.

In 2006, my family made Kelowna our home. I spent 10 years as an independent mortgage broker, coached my 2 children's local youth sports (hockey, baseball, and softball), and since 2013 own a bakery goods distribution business in Kelowna.

I am happily married to my wife, Tracy—a lifelong Kelowna resident—and between the 2 of us we have four wonderful adult children. Recently I have joined the ranks of the semi-retired, overseeing my distribution business. In my spare time you can find me enjoying B.C.’s great outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, or touring on my motorcycle.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I’m running for Kelowna City Council because the issues
facing us are the exact same ones facing all cities across BC for the last 3
elections. We’re still moving in the wrong direction. Simply throwing money at symptoms doesn't work - we need real, systemic solutions.
