Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
Amar Hundal is a North Delta parent, community volunteer and small business owner who values public education and the role it plays in giving young people the knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to build their futures.

Amar and his wife have raised their two sons in North Delta and, as parents of high school students, they have a personal stake in making sure Delta’s public schools continue to prepare young people for the future. Amar believes a strong public education system should give students a solid academic foundation while exposing them to diverse perspectives, experiences and opportunities that help them become confident, thoughtful and capable adults. It is the diversity of viewpoints and experiences within public education that he and his wife value for their own children. Amar holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Computer Applications. After spending ten years running a small business that required long hours away from home, he made a career change into real estate, giving him greater flexibility to spend time with his family and become more involved in his community. That involvement has included volunteering as an Assistant Coach with the Delta Minor Ball Hockey Association and volunteering with North Delta Minor Hockey. Through these roles, Amar has worked with several hundred young athletes and built strong connections with families across North Delta. He has seen how much young people benefit when families, schools and community organizations work together to support them. As families occasionally needed help navigating issues involving the School District, Amar reached out to Trustee and Vice Chair Ammen Dhillon. Through those conversations, he developed a greater appreciation for the role trustees play in advocating for students, supporting families and helping shape the direction of public education. Amar is running because he believes Delta’s students deserve a public education system that gives them strong foundations, supports their well-being and prepares them for an increasingly complex future.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
Amar wants to bring the perspective of a parent and community volunteer to the Board and help ensure that every student has the skills, confidence and opportunities to succeed. Investing in public education is an investment not only in our children, but in the future of Delta.
