Businesses & Jobs

Artificial Intelligence & Data Centres

Attract responsible, high-value technology and AI investment to Coquitlam that creates local jobs, supports innovation, and delivers measurable economic benefits to the community.

I want Coquitlam to be ready for the next generation of economic opportunities. With appropriate infrastructure, environmental standards and community benefits, technology and AI-related investment can bring high-value jobs, new businesses and a stronger commercial tax base to our city.

Business Permitting

Cut unnecessary red tape and permitting delays by simplifying City processes, expanding digital services, setting clear service standards, and publicly tracking turnaround times.

Small businesses should spend their time serving customers and creating jobs—not navigating unnecessary delays. I support reviewing permitting processes from start to finish, eliminating duplication, improving online applications, establishing realistic processing targets and measuring performance so businesses know what to expect.

Economic Growth

Build a more vibrant local economy by supporting small businesses, attracting employers, creating active commercial and entertainment destinations, and expanding Coquitlam’s economic base beyond property taxes.

Coquitlam has enormous economic potential, but too much local spending leaves our city for dining, entertainment, cultural experiences and other activities. I want to create more reasons for residents to stay, gather and spend locally.

That means supporting existing businesses, attracting new employers and investment, encouraging vibrant dining, cultural and evening destinations, and making commercial areas more active beyond traditional working hours.

A stronger local economy means more jobs, stronger neighbourhood businesses, a more vibrant city and a broader municipal revenue base—reducing the pressure to rely increasingly on residential property taxes.

Climate Change, Heat, Fires, & the Environment

Energy-Efficient Buildings

Improve energy efficiency in City facilities and support practical, cost-effective building standards that reduce long-term operating costs without unnecessarily increasing housing costs.

Flooding

Use data-driven infrastructure planning to identify flood risks early and prioritize drainage, stormwater management, and resilient infrastructure before problems become more expensive to fix.
Use data-driven infrastructure planning to identify flood risks early and prioritize drainage, stormwater management, and resilient infrastructure before problems become more expensive to fix.

Green Space

Protect and expand accessible green spaces as Coquitlam grows, ensuring new development is balanced with parks, trees, trails, and public spaces that preserve residents’ quality of life.

Private Vehicles & Parking

Plan growth around real transportation needs by improving traffic flow and ensuring reasonable access to parking while expanding practical alternatives to driving.

Urban Heat

Reduce urban heat through increased tree canopy cover, shade, green infrastructure, and heat-conscious planning, particularly around dense neighbourhoods and public gathering spaces.

Walking & Cycling

Build safer, better-connected walking and cycling routes that reduce conflicts between pedestrians, bikes and e-scooters, while improving access to schools, parks, transit and neighbourhood centres.

I support safer separation between pedestrians and faster-moving devices, better-designed crossings, clearer routes, and stronger use of data to identify problem areas. Walking and cycling infrastructure should improve safety and convenience without creating unnecessary congestion.

Zoning

Support responsible zoning that enables more housing and economic activity while ensuring infrastructure, traffic capacity, parks, services and neighbourhood quality keep pace with growth.

Coquitlam needs more housing and economic opportunities, but density alone is not good planning. I support zoning decisions that consider transportation, infrastructure, schools, parks, public safety, local businesses and neighbourhood character together. Growth should make communities more complete and livable, not simply more crowded.

Culture & Events

Festivals & Events

Support more year-round festivals, cultural events and community programming that bring people together, strengthen local identity, attract visitors and support Coquitlam businesses.

Coquitlam’s diversity is one of its strengths. I support a more active year-round calendar of community, cultural and family-friendly events that give residents more reasons to gather, connect and enjoy their city. Well-planned events can also support local restaurants and businesses, attract visitors and contribute to a more vibrant local economy.

Public Art

Use public art strategically to create welcoming, distinctive public spaces that reflect Coquitlam’s diverse communities and strengthen the identity of our neighbourhoods.

Public art should do more than decorate a space. When thoughtfully planned, it can create memorable destinations, strengthen neighbourhood identity, support local artists and make public spaces more attractive and inviting.

Vibrant Public Spaces & Evening Economy

Create more vibrant destinations where residents can dine, gather, enjoy culture and entertainment, and spend more of their leisure time within Coquitlam.

I want Coquitlam to have more lively, well-designed destinations that remain active beyond traditional business hours, with dining, cultural activities, entertainment and community gathering spaces. This can improve quality of life, support local businesses and help keep more local spending within our city.

A

Housing & Homelessness

Affordability

Support more diverse and attainable housing by reducing unnecessary delays and costs in City processes, while ensuring growth is matched by infrastructure, transportation and community services.

Building Maintenance & Occupant Health

Strengthen enforcement of basic building maintenance and safety standards so residents can live in healthy, well-maintained homes without creating unnecessary regulatory burdens.

Homelessness

Work with provincial agencies, health services and community organizations on practical housing and support solutions that address homelessness while protecting neighbourhood safety and public spaces.

Housing Accessibility

Encourage more accessible and adaptable housing so seniors and people with mobility challenges can remain independent and live in their communities longer.

Indigenous-Led Housing

Support constructive partnerships with Indigenous communities on housing initiatives that respect local planning requirements, community needs and long-term affordability.

Property Taxes

Hold property tax increases to the lowest responsible level by improving City efficiency, controlling avoidable costs, and expanding non-tax revenue opportunities before asking residents to pay more.

Residents should not automatically face higher property taxes whenever the City faces new costs. I support reviewing City processes, measuring performance, reducing avoidable spending and using technology where it can improve productivity. Coquitlam should also strengthen its commercial base and responsibly expand non-tax revenue sources so residential property taxes are not expected to carry an ever-growing share of the burden.

Public & Assistive Housing

Work with provincial, federal and non-profit partners to expand supportive and affordable housing while ensuring projects are well-planned, properly serviced and integrated into neighbourhoods.

Rent & Rental Stock

Support more purpose-built rental housing and a diverse rental supply by reducing unnecessary City delays while ensuring new development keeps pace with infrastructure and community services.

Human Rights

Human Rights Abroad

Keep Coquitlam focused on its municipal responsibilities while supporting respectful, inclusive communities and condemning violence and hatred when they directly affect our residents.

Physical Accessibility

Improve accessibility in City facilities, sidewalks, parks and public spaces so seniors and people with disabilities can move through Coquitlam safely and independently.

Recent Immigrants

Help newcomers connect with local services, employment resources, community organizations and civic life so they can participate fully in Coquitlam.

Coquitlam should be a welcoming and inclusive city where newcomers have a real opportunity to participate fully in community life. Successful inclusion, however, is a two-way process: our community should help newcomers understand local institutions, services, civic responsibilities and the values that underpin Canadian society, while newcomers should be encouraged to actively engage with and embrace those shared principles.

Those principles include respect for the rule of law, equality, individual rights and freedoms, democratic participation, mutual respect, peaceful dialogue and equal treatment of people regardless of their background. Newcomers should be supported in building connections beyond their own cultural communities and in becoming active participants in the broader Canadian community.

Canada’s strength comes from diversity within a shared civic framework. We can celebrate the cultures and traditions people bring with them while also encouraging everyone to leave behind divisions, intolerance and conflicts from elsewhere and build a common future together here in Coquitlam.

Sex Work

Prioritize public safety, neighbourhood well-being and access to appropriate support services, while working within municipal authority and existing Canadian law.

Trans Rights & Access to Public Services

Ensure every Coquitlam resident can access City services and public facilities safely, respectfully and without discrimination, consistent with Canadian and B.C. law.

Local Government, Planning, & Democracy

Artificial Intelligence & Data Centres

Attract responsible, high-value technology and AI investment to Coquitlam that creates local jobs, supports innovation, and delivers measurable economic benefits to the community.

I want Coquitlam to be ready for the next generation of economic opportunities. With appropriate infrastructure, environmental standards and community benefits, technology and AI-related investment can bring high-value jobs, new businesses and a stronger commercial tax base to our city.

Budgeting

Prioritize essential services, measure results, reduce avoidable costs, and use transparent, data-informed budgeting so residents receive better value for every tax dollar.

Before asking residents to pay more, the City should continuously review how money is being spent and whether programs are delivering measurable value. I support process improvement, technology where it produces real savings, stronger performance measurement, and responsible diversification of non-tax revenues while protecting essential services.

Good Governance

Make City decisions more transparent, evidence-based and accountable by using clear performance measures, professional expertise, public reporting and meaningful oversight.

Good governance means more than making decisions—it means knowing whether those decisions actually work. I support greater use of data, measurable outcomes, subject-matter experts and transparent performance reporting in City decision-making. Major policies and projects should have clear objectives, realistic costs and results that residents can evaluate.

Long-Term Plan

Plan Coquitlam’s growth with a long-term view so housing, transportation, infrastructure, parks, public safety and City finances remain sustainable as the population grows.

Public Engagement

Make public consultation easier, earlier and more meaningful so residents can influence major City decisions before they are effectively finalized.

Youth Engagement

Create more opportunities for young people to participate in civic life, advisory processes, volunteering and community decision-making so their perspectives help shape Coquitlam’s future.

Mental Health, Drugs, & Addiction

Mental Health Crisis Response

Strengthen coordination between the City, first responders, health authorities and community organizations so people experiencing a mental crisis receive timely, appropriate care while protecting public safety.

Mental health crises should not be addressed by a single system acting alone. Coquitlam should strengthen coordination among police, fire and emergency services, Fraser Health, mental health professionals and community organizations so the right response reaches the right person at the right time. The goal should be earlier intervention, appropriate care, better outcomes and safer communities.

Overdoses & the Contaminated Drug Supply

Support a coordinated response to the overdose crisis that prioritizes prevention, public safety, treatment pathways and evidence-based health interventions while keeping parks and public spaces safe everyone.

Treatment for Addiction

Advocate for faster access to evidence-based addiction treatment and recovery services, working with provincial health authorities and community partners to connect people with appropriate care.

Addiction is a complex health and community-safety challenge. While treatment and health-care delivery are primarily provincial responsibilities, the City can advocate strongly for adequate local services and work with partners to improve connections between outreach, treatment, recovery, housing and community supports. Our approach should be evidence-based, focused on recovery and measurable outcomes, while recognizing the impact addiction has on families, neighbourhoods and public spaces.

Public Safety & Policing

Non-Police-Based Public Safety

Use mental health, outreach and bylaw resources for non-criminal issues so police can focus on serious crime.

Not every public-safety situation requires the same response. Mental-health crises, addiction, homelessness, nuisance complaints and youth-related issues often require coordination among police, health professionals, outreach teams, bylaw officers and community organizations. A better coordinated system can improve outcomes, reduce repeat calls and allow police officers to focus more of their time on serious crime and immediate threats to public safety.

Police Funding

Maintain police resources at a level that reflects Coquitlam’s growth and public-safety needs, while requiring clear performance measures, accountability and value for taxpayers.

Use data, technology and process improvement to help police work more efficiently, reduce avoidable administrative workload, improve response and resource allocation, and ensure public-safety funding delivers measurable value for residents.

Police Wrongdoing & Accountability

Support transparent oversight, strong professional standards and fair accountability so residents can have confidence in policing while officers are supported in doing their jobs effectively.

Upstream Causes of Crime

Reduce crime over the long term by addressing contributing factors such as addiction, mental-health crises, youth disengagement and chronic homelessness through coordinated, evidence-based prevention.

Public Spaces & Services

Fitness & Sports Facilities

Expand and modernize recreation and sports facilities as Coquitlam grows, with a focus on accessibility, efficient use of space, and long-term value for residents.

Green Space

Protect and expand accessible green spaces as Coquitlam grows, ensuring new development is balanced with parks, trees, trails, and public spaces that preserve residents’ quality of life.

Health Infrastructure

Advocate for health infrastructure and local services to keep pace with Coquitlam’s growth, working closely with provincial and regional partners.

Public Washrooms

Improve access to clean, safe and well-maintained public washrooms in parks, major public spaces and busy community areas.

Sidewalks & Bike Paths

Build safer, better-connected sidewalks and bike routes, with clearer separation between pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooters where possible.

Reconciliation & Indigenous Nations

Indigenous Languages

Support respectful recognition and visibility of local Indigenous languages in appropriate City spaces, programs and public initiatives.

Indigenous-Led Housing

Support constructive partnerships with Indigenous communities on housing initiatives that respect local planning requirements, community needs and long-term affordability.

Land Title & Governance

Maintain respectful government-to-government relationships with Indigenous Nations and approach land and planning matters through lawful, transparent and constructive consultation.

Place Names & Commemorations

Consider Indigenous history and perspectives in place naming and commemorations through respectful consultation and clear, transparent City processes.

Residential Schools

Support appropriate local education and commemoration initiatives that recognize the history and lasting impacts of residential schools.

Transit & Getting Around

Private Vehicles & Parking

Plan growth around real transportation needs by improving traffic flow and ensuring reasonable access to parking while expanding practical alternatives to driving.

Sidewalks & Bike Paths

Build safer, better-connected sidewalks and bike routes, with clearer separation between pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooters where possible.

Transit Projects

Work with TransLink and senior governments to improve bus frequency, reliability and connections to SkyTrain, prioritizing transit investments where growth, congestion and ridership needs are greatest.

Transit investments should follow real demand and population growth. I will advocate for better bus service, stronger first-and-last-mile connections and data-informed transit planning that reduces congestion and gives residents practical alternatives to driving.

Everything else

Coquitlam Worldwalk

Explore a year-round, weather-protected destination for dining, culture, entertainment and local businesses that strengthens Coquitlam’s evening economy and keeps more local spending in our city.

Coquitlam Worldwalk is my vision for a vibrant, walkable destination where residents can dine, gather, enjoy cultural activities and entertainment, and support local businesses throughout the year. The concept could include restaurants, cafés, small-business spaces, cultural programming and a major indoor community venue.

Before committing significant public funds, I would require a professional feasibility study, business case, traffic and infrastructure analysis, and exploration of private-sector and partnership opportunities. The goal is to create a destination that improves quality of life, supports local jobs and businesses, attracts visitors and broadens Coquitlam’s economic base.
