Biography
Heymann Yip is a Burnaby resident of 35 years and a successful entrepreneur and dedicated community advocate running for Mayor to deliver leadership that listens, acts and puts residents first. With over 35 years of business experience partnering with retailers like Shoppers Drug Mart and Save On Foods, Heymann brings proven skills in budget management and job creation to City Hall. His deep commitment to public service is reflected in his past roles with the Canadian Cancer Society, Burnaby Public Safety Committee and Burnaby RCMP Community Policing Advisory Committee while being a full-time family caregiver. As a passionate environmental advocate who founded “Save Burnaby Parks & Green Spaces”, he fought the city to protect the 21 acres of the eco-sensitive wetlands of the Fraser Foreshore Park. Heymann co-founded “Burnaby First” to unite residents around a transparent, fiscally responsible and community-focused vision for Burnaby’s future.

Reason for running
Over the past several years, I have attended many city council meetings, spoken at public hearings, and volunteered as a Citizen’s Representative with the Burnaby RCMP. As a result, I witnessed various issues that have been occurring in our city and advocated for changes to fix them. I want to take the next step by running for Mayor to implement changes that will further improve our city.
One change would be removing barriers and lowering costs to help create purpose-built rentals and laneway houses that residents of Burnaby can actually afford. I also want to see improved management of invasive species, and increase native plants and tree canopy and to create an environment that will encourage the return of declining insect and bird populations.
Furthermore, all Burnaby residents deserve a seat at the table when discussing matters that involve them. In addressing homelessness in our city, I will include people experiencing homelessness, Indigenous Leaders, residents and business owners, which are currently left out.
I want to help lead the change for a more affordable and safe Burnaby where parks and green spaces are abundant. I am excited to work together with you to make Burnaby the envy of Metro Vancouver and I would be honoured to serve you as the Mayor of Burnaby.
