Biography
Passionate about Public Education. Committed to Our Community.
I've been a dedicated advocate for public education for more than a decade. Having lived in Burnaby for over 20 years with my husband and three children, I know the challenges our schools and community face with economic and affordability pressures, equitable access and inclusion, and ensuring that every student has the resources, opportunities and supports they need to thrive.
I am a current Trustee and the Chair of the Burnaby Board of Education. In this role, I've focused on advocating for equitable funding for public education, strengthening our community school model, championing accessible inclusive childcare, and fostering a culture of respect and inclusion in Burnaby’s diverse school community. I've dedicated years to ensuring that all learners have a voice and access to equitable, quality education in our schools, especially those who are often left out of the conversation and those who face systemic barriers. I have a proven track record of advancing progressive and inclusive values in Burnaby schools that respect our diverse community and create a sense of belonging for all.
In addition to being a Trustee, I work in communications at the Public Service Alliance of Canada, representing federal public service workers. In my role at PSAC I've developed practical skills and knowledge in public policy, government relations and strategic advocacy that I bring to my work as a Trustee in the Burnaby School District.
My passion for public education stems from my upbringing in the Lower Mainland. My parents are both educators who held several positions within BC's K-12 public education system. This background allows me to see the system from a variety of perspectives, including my own as a parent of two students who are currently enrolled in the Burnaby School District.
Before becoming a Trustee, I served on Burnaby school PACs and Community Councils for over ten years. I also served on the Burnaby District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) executive for six years, including two terms as DPAC Chair. That experience gave me an acute understanding of the District, its structures, policies, BC's education system, legislation and funding mechanism, education partner groups, and—most importantly—our Burnaby school communities.
I understand the need to elect candidates for public office who reflect our diverse community and are responsive to its needs. I hope to continue using my skills and knowledge to serve Burnaby well and am committed to meeting the challenges ahead. Above all, I want to continue working to support students, staff, and families so we can continue building a District where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported.
