Affordability

Cell and Internet services

Jayden Baldonado's promise

Ensure affordable Internet access for all Albertans.

A Green Party of Alberta government will treat broadband internet access as a human right, and work to provide Albertans with wired broadband internet access to the premises wherever feasible, in order to ensure internet access that is fast, reliable, cyber-secure, and economically affordable, while also protecting the environment.

Childcare

Jayden Baldonado's promises

Implement $10 per day childcare in Alberta.

The GPA will work with the federal government to fully implement a $10 per day child care while providing supplementary funding to eliminate extra fees, improve the quality of care, and ensure workers are fairly compensated. Other affordability measures would include the implementation of basic income, capping rent increases, public transportation as a right and the expansion of social housing.

Provide funding and support for Indigenous-led childcare services in their communities.

In light of the legacy of residential schools and the 60s Scoop, the Greens understand the need for proper funding and support for Indigenous led childcare and services in their communities.

Food prices

Jayden Baldonado's promises

Prohibit grocery stores and farms from throwing out food that is suitable for consumption, instead requiring them to donate or sell it at a reduced price.

A Green Party of Alberta Government supports the development of solutions to reduce food mismanagement with the objective of achieving zero food waste that maximizes environmental, economic, and social benefits, including the banning of food producers and providers from throwing away or intentionally spoiling food that is either edible or useable as animal feed.

Introduce an excess profit cap to stop corporate profiteering.

The GPA is proposing to introduce an "excess profit cap" to ensure that companies are not making excessive profits at the expense of Albertans.

The GPA is committed to ensuring that the benefits of economic activity are distributed fairly and that all Albertans have access to a decent standard of living. This includes the eradication of poverty and the introduction of back-to-work incentives like basic income.

Health & Healthcare

Dental care and optometry

Jayden Baldonado's promise

Establish comprehensive universal healthcare coverage in Alberta, including dental and vision care.

Dental Care, Optical Services, and Hearing Services will involve providing access to free dental care, eye exams, and hearing tests to all Albertans. This will help to ensure that individuals can access preventive care and early interventions to prevent more severe health conditions from developing.

Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
Jayden Baldonado (he/him) is an Environmental Science student and passionate young activist, running for the Green Party of Alberta in Calgary-East. He believes that all Albertans deserve to have their voices heard and their needs met.

Jayden Baldonado (he/him) is a passionate young activist born and raised on Treaty 7 Mohkinstsis (Calgary, Alberta). Since he was a child, Jayden has been concerned about the climate crisis and the environment, but struggled to find his voice in a world run by those otherwise out of touch. That was until then-16-year-old Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg burst onto the scene. Greta’s activism and the global movement she inspired led Jayden to become an agent for change. Although he was still too young to vote, Jayden became a member of the Alberta Greens, working with local candidates in the 2019 election.

Jayden is currently studying Environmental Technology at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and serves on the SAIT Student Association’s Board of Directors. His role as a student leader has taught him the importance of open and honest two-way communication, and Jayden aspires to hold onto this principle as the provincial Green candidate in his home riding of Calgary-East.

In order to represent the best interests of all Albertans, Jayden recognizes that we must take action to avert the climate crisis, eliminate poverty, and reduce socioeconomic inequity by working to dismantle the oppressive systems of colonialism, capitalism, and patriarchy.

In his spare time, Jayden enjoys serving the community by volunteering with environmental non-profit organizations, such as CreekWatch and the Weaselhead Preservation Society. He is eager to spend time in nature whenever he gets the chance, and takes pleasure in hiking and camping. He is also an avid fan of the Calgary Flames.
