Biography

Vicki Mowat is the Sask NDP MLA for Saskatoon Fairview. She currently serves as the Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition, as well as the Official Opposition Critic for Health and Mental Health and Addictions. Vicki is a retired Captain of the 2293 and 3071 Army Cadet Corps. She was first elected in 2017.

Vicki and her family settled in Saskatoon after spending her early childhood in the small town of Pincher Creek, a ranching town in southwestern Alberta. After graduating from E.D. Feehan Catholic High School, she enrolled in University.

Vicki holds both a Bachelor of Arts Honours and Master of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as a Master of Public Administration from the Royal Military College of Canada.

After completing her Master’s in Sociology, Vicki started teaching as a Sessional Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Saskatchewan. She was nominated for several teaching awards. Prior to her election, Vicki worked as Executive Assistant to the Vice Dean Indigenous in the College of Arts & Science at the University of Saskatchewan.

Vicki got her start in community leadership with army cadets, working with youth ages 12 to 19. She worked in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves for 11 years. Through this work, Vicki led the start-up of a cadet corps in Saskatoon’s inner city, a group that still runs today. She became a reputable instructor of adult and youth learning, and was often called on to teach and present across the prairies and western Canada. She is a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal recipient.

In her spare time, Vicki enjoys reading, hiking, and going on camping trips with family. She has resided in west Saskatoon for most of her life, where she is currently a proud homeowner with her partner Grayson, a teacher.
