Climate Change, Heat, Fires, & the Environment

Energy-Efficient Buildings

Require that energy efficiency be part of every new building project, together with the long-term plan to end the use of portable classrooms.

Human Rights

Recent Immigrants

Be present where families already are: school pick-up, school councils, and the organizations that welcome newcomers.

Local Government, Planning, & Democracy

Budgeting

Ask for clear data before every budget decision, published so families can see where the money goes and what it produces.
Protect first what reaches the student directly: teaching, support and specialized services. Listen to staff before deciding.

Good Governance

Make sure eligible families, tenants and citizens are correctly counted as CECCE electors. Same bill, same amount.

Long-Term Plan

Put the overcrowded Zone 6 schools at the top of the board's building requests, and replace portable classrooms with real rooms.
Ask the board to publish, school by school, the number of portable classrooms and the plan to end their use.

Public Engagement

Hold meetings at times working families can manage: evenings, weekends or online, in French and in English.

Mental Health, Drugs, & Addiction

Mental Health in Schools

Accompany every young person with compassion, and look after their mental health and their academic success.

Schools & Public Education

Artificial Intelligence in Schools

Give the CECCE a governance framework for artificial intelligence: student data that stays protected and sovereign, defined uses, and a measured environmental footprint.
Go beyond tool adoption: rethink with staff the ways we teach, work, communicate and delegate.

Bullying & Bigotry

Maintain a school climate where every student, without exception, feels welcomed, loved and safe.

Neurodivergent Students & Support

Ask the board to publish its assessment wait times, set targets, and identify needs early, before a student disengages.
Train staff in inclusion and neurodiversity, so that classroom accommodation does not depend on a single teacher.

Student Involvement & Engagement

Hear directly from students, including through student councils, since they are the ones our decisions affect first.

Les parents d'abord

Have the selection criteria for school materials written down and published, with a clear procedure for a parent to request a review of a resource.
Support a board policy that says parents are the first educators of their children, debated in open session.
Make sure parents are informed in advance of the content of the family life program.

Éducation catholique

Defend a Catholic education faithful to the teaching of the Church, inside the Ontario curriculum.

Persévérance scolaire

Track attendance and credits closely, and act early: credit recovery, mentoring and guidance.

Éducation en français

Defend a supply and funding of French-language books comparable to what exists on the English side.

Biography

Vote for our schools, with parents first, our Catholic values and our young people in school. I believe a trustee must also sit for those who cannot take a seat at the table.

David Elisma is a candidate for School Board Trustee for Zone 6 at the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE), in Ottawa.

His community work has prepared him for the practical work of a school board: deciding where resources go, tracking results, and answering to families. He was an instructor and the Ottawa chapter leader with Black Boys Code, then founded the Colourfully Digital Foundation and its CTRL Clique. In 2025-2026 alone, 381 young people took part: 281 boys and 100 girls.

That work put him in schools, in front of students. In Vanier especially, he saw a deeply diverse school population: francophone families from many places, with paths, expectations, and needs that are not those of a previous generation.

Since 2023, David has also helped organize STEM career days. On May 11, 2026, the CECCE held its first career day, to which he was invited through its education, equity, and inclusion team.

Radio-Canada ask David to speak about education issues in Ottawa.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I believe a trustee must also sit for those who cannot take a seat at the table. For the children, the parents who do not live in the neighbourhood of their child's school, and the staff members who work in Zone 6 and do not necessarily live here.

The budgets, the staffing and the services that decide a child's school year are voted on at a table no child can sit at.

I also ask one thing of voters: check your school support designation. Same bill, same amount; what changes is your right to vote for the CECCE. Our voice needs to heard in numbers at Queen's Park.
