Born and raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in South Lebanon. I came to Victoria via Oklahoma after graduating from Oklahoma State University as a Mechanical Engineer in1987 and I stayed here since then.
My life experiences have provided me with an understanding of the marginalized, the moneyed, and the motivated. I will work hard to ensure Victoria is well resourced for all families, newcomers, and businesses and to ensure climate change initiatives are acted upon. Victoria, BC is a place that is unlike no other. I appreciate this place called Victoria and thank the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations who permit me to reside and work upon it.
What got me to decide to run for council? Well, after years of seeing and commenting to family and friends on the declining quality of life in Victoria, even before the pandemic, and the rise in the cost of living in Victoria, along with the well-known personal agendas on council- I decided to walk the talk and run, for council that is… Many smart and intelligent people in Victoria just sit on the sidelines or scroll their screens and watch Victoria go downhill. They have lots to say and yet I want to actually do!!
I will advocate for thoughtfully planned affordable housing for families and individuals in a safe community, for the youth who live and receive their education here, for the businesses or places that provide the reason to go out and connect with others.
I am running for the City of Victoria council and asking for your support. I will listen - and learn. Let’s go back to the future, reset and rebound!
