Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
10 years experience on City Council and over 30 years as a family law lawyer. Long-standing member of the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM), currently 2nd Vice-President. Countless volunteer hours on various boards and community non-profit organizations.

Born in Winnipeg, I have lived in Campbell River since 1992.  I earned a law degree from the University of Manitoba and practised family law in Vancouver and Campbell River before retiring in 2014.

I was elected to City Council in 2008 and served two terms, later returning in the 2018 municipal election. During my years on Council, I have held various positions, including

- Chair of Comox-Strathcona Regional Hospital Board for 3 years;

- City representative to the Strathcona Regional District, the Strathcona Gardens Commission, the Comox-Strathcona Solid Waste Board;

- Council liaison to the Tourism Advisory Committee, the Task Force on Homelessness, Advisory Planning and Environment Commission, Community Advisory Commission, the Community Partnership Committee and the Economic Development office;

Beyond my local political role, I also have extensive experience at the regional and Provincial level. I was elected to the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities (AVICC) executive in 2011 and served as a Director-at-Large until 2014.

I have also served on the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Executive , firstly as a Director-at-Large and currently as Second Vice-President.  This organization is the united and undisputed advocacy voice for local government.

In addition to serving on these political boards and committees, I have had a long standing leadership role on several other non-political boards, some local to Campbell River and some Provincial in scope. These include:

- Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health)

- Vancouver Island University (VIU)

- Municipal Pension Board

- Campbell River Community Foundation

-  Willow Point Seniors Housing Society

- Campbell River Museum

In my spare time, depending on the season, I love kayaking, cycling, running, bridge, gardening and reading

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I am running for re-election because I have the experience and skill to help our City overcome some of its current challenges as well as develop into a modern, progressive city in the future. My leadership and collaborative history are what is needed to move our City forward.

You should vote for Claire Moglove for the experience and the leadership skills that will enable us to deal with our current challenges and that are also vital to the future if we want to realize our vision of a safe, vibrant and progressive community.

My legal experience provides me with a skill set that is invaluable to local government - listening skills, critical thinking, excellent advocacy and speaking skills, collaboration and the reliance on evidence and data to inform decisions.

As a long-standing member of the executive of the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM), I know there is strength in numbers. The voice of all 189 cities, towns, villages, Regional Districts in British Columbia as well as our First Nations members is much stronger than the voice of one city. As 2rd Vice President of UBCM, I have a voice at the table and at Provincial meetings. Campbell River will be heard.

Campbell River is all about fresh air, rivers, ocean, forest, mountains - our incredibly beautiful surroundings. Let’s build a city not only for us but for future generations!

I am proud to live in Campbell River and I am always struck by the sense of community here, often reflected in volunteerism. In my time volunteering for the CR Community Foundation, the Willow Point Supportive Housing Society, Hame?elas Community Kitchen and the CR and District Museum, I have met so many dedicated members of our community, all with one goal – to make Campbell River the best that it can be. That is my goal too.
