Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
Benjamin Perry grew up in Coquitlam and lives here now with his family of four. He works as a speech-language pathologist, union volunteer, and climate change activist.

I remember walking through Mundy park on rainy days when I was 2 or 3 years old. I always loved the forest. As I grew up, I watched to forests and fields give way to suburban homes and now apartment towers. I love the natural environment, but also the people and services that we have here now. There is so much to do. In my work life, I help families of children with disabilities and developmental needs as a speech therapist. I am also a union volunteer, serving as chief steward and providing support to co-workers asserting their employment rights. I am also working with the union's constituency liaison program to lobby the provincial government to solve workforce shortages and lack of funding for healthcare services. In Tri-Cities I have led a team of climate advocates with Force of Nature to influence the city to take action on climate change. Our biggest win was in 2020 when the city adopted the UN IPCC climate target for our whole city to be net-zero emissions by 2050.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
I am running to make sure that Coquitlam meets its target of net zero climate emissions by 2050, and to make sure our council represents the needs of citizens first and foremost.

Climate Policy

Coquitlam has adopted a target of net-zero community emissions by 2050 in the environmental sustainability plan. Creating policy that will get our city there is very important to me. I would like to be there at the council meetings to make sure we adopt enough practical measures to make steady progress and reach that goal.

Representing You

I believe that democracy is the best form of government. The informed opinions of voters should matter most in making decisions. As a councillor, I will continue to listen to input from the community. I have not taken any donations for my campaign that come from people in the real estate development industry.
