We need more parents to want to attend PAC meetings. We also need parents to know about the Richmond District Parent Association (RDPA). RDPA is a incredible resource for parents voices to be heard. Continue to advocate for playground funding and for outdoor classrooms

Encourage outdoor classrooms, and have current outdoor teachers lead training on how to create more. Expand environmental stewardship programs & sustainability initiatives

Mental Wellness

Mental health literacy training for teachers; more mindfulness and stress-management and anxiety programs for students. We need more counsellors and better communication on availability of intervention supports & programs

Natural Disaster Measures

Establish Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee. Advocate for, and commit funding to establish base level of supplies at all schools. Update emergency procedures, and include a reunification plan.We need the new Ministry Integrated Response Plan for Catastrophic Earthquakes implemented.

Commitment to using the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement and honouring history of residential schools

School Inclusion and Safety

We also need to remove old fountains, that require daily flushing and replace with new fountains that are flushed once a week. Goal would be to get the bottle refill stations and remove the priority 1 failures. More funds needed. Continue to monitor advance seismic upgrading. Advocacy & funding for emergency preparedness Staff - new policy to protect EA’s & bus drivers who support students with behavioural challenges

School Staffing

Hire more Learning Resource teachers (Learning Assistance, ELL, Speech Language) Advocate and prioritize options for teacher recruitment and retention Attract and fund more EA’s to support full inclusion. Advocate for better EA pay & improved working conditions/hours (including prep time), and access to better resources/technology to support their work with students. Increase number of counsellors Advocate for funding for additional Settlement Workers (SWIS)

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Curriculum and Supports

Work towards more SOGI-inclusive environment in schools and workplaces, support SOGI123 resources. Establish SOGI Advisory Committee to oversee implementation of the SOGI policy.

French Immersion

I am happy that Ottawa is committed to address the shortage of teachers is a action plan. As a School Trustee I would advocate to see this funding. I would also like to see for a French as a Second Language Community Advisory Committee on SD38 School Board. This way we can create a partnership of trustees, staff and parents and growth in FSL programs at the Board.
