Coquitlam deserves councillors with integrity, a passion for their community and someone they can rely on. I believe my track record shows I'm that kind of a leader.
I was born in Winnipeg and moved to BC in 1985 to attend SFU on a wrestling scholarship and have lived in Coquitlam for 28 amazing years. I had the honour of representing Canada at the Olympics and was a two-time World Cup Champion. This experience had a profound impact on my life. Travelling and competing around the world exposed me to a variety of cultures, cities, ways of life and economic systems.
I’ve been an entrepreneur my whole life and am a 98-time blood donor. In addition to coaching a variety of sports, for the past 11 years, I’ve led KidSport Tri-Cities, raising more than $1.2 million and helping over 4,500 lower income kids from our area play a season of sport. I’ve also led the Operation Red Nose program since 2011, ensuring that more than 5,000 safe rides home happen over Christmas seasons.
As a councillor, I’ve made an impact by pushing back on developers and being a strong advocate for affordable and subsidized housing. I’ve even been called the “strongest advocate for affordable housing†by some of my colleagues. I’ve passionately advocated for better policies for childcare and for more childcare centres. This has led to a future 96 space centre in Burke Mountain and a planned centre in SW Coquitlam. I’ll continue to push back to ensure that YOUR needs come first and not developers’ profits.
Among other issues, I am proud to have advocated for taking big money out of local politics. I believe we need to be transparent in our decision-making. That’s why, in the spirit of the new rules, I will not accept personal donations from any senior employees of developers.
Integrity, commitment to local issues and strong leadership – Please re-elect Chris Wilson
