Kim Siever

Independent candidate for Lethbridge
My vision is to put the needs of the Lethbridge area above everything else. I’ll vote for what is in Lethbridge’s best interests, not a party’s best interests.

Affordability & Childcare

Compare

Canada Child Benefit

Compare other promises
Replace the Canada Child Benefit with a guaranteed livable income.

Cell & Internet Bills

Compare other promises
Canada should have a public telecom company. It could subsidize the costs of cellphone service, making it cheaper for the consumers.

Childcare

Compare other promises
Canada should have universal childcare.

Food & Nutrition

Compare other promises
Food prices aren’t the problem in Lethbridge. Having the lowest median wage in the province is the problem.

Guaranteed Livable Income

Compare other promises
Canada should have a guaranteed livable income.

Minimum Wage

Compare other promises
This is a provincial issue.

People with Disabilities

Compare other promises
We must do a better job of supporting people of all levels of ability.

Climate Change & the Environment

Compare

Emissions Reductions Targets

Compare other promises
We will not meet our net-zero targets unless we start focusing on reducing consumption. Canada must make this easier for consumers to do.

Energy Efficient Buildings

Compare other promises
We should be trying to be improving the energy efficiency of all buildings.

Energy Sources

Compare other promises
Hydrogen production should be primarily, if not exclusively, green hydrogen.

Fossil Fuel Subsidies

Compare other promises
We should eliminate all forms of subsidies to fossil fuel companies, but it must be in concert with infrastructure that will help consumers transition to a greener economy (such as a more robust public transportation option for rural communities).

Waste

Compare other promises
We must reduce how much waste ends up in landfills, through a combination of reusing, recycling, and reducing waste, both consumers and institutions.

Education

Compare

Post-Secondary Tuition

Compare other promises
Postsecondary education should be tuition free.

Health & Healthcare

Compare

Access to Abortion

Compare other promises
Every pregnant person should have access to abortion, if it is something they choose. At the same time, if they choose pregnancy, they should have all the support they need. Same goes for abortion, and for contraception. We must support everyone in their reproductive choices.

Future Pandemics

Compare other promises
We must have infrastructure in place to be able to manufacture our own vaccines, PPEs, and other pandemic needs. We must also make sure health care systems are designed for optimal capacity, not for just-in time provisions.

Palliative Care

Compare other promises
This should be provided through public institutions, not private corporations.

Housing & Homelessness

Compare

Homelessness

Compare other promises
Canada must return to building social housing at rates that we were 30 years ago.

Housing Prices

Compare other promises
We must limit real estate speculation

Human Rights & Equality

Compare

Conversion Therapy

Compare other promises
As someone who was forced to believe I was straight for over 45 years, I support banning conversion therapy.

Gender Equity

Compare other promises
We need universal childcare and 100% parental leave. Also, women need to be paid equal to what their men coworkers are.

The Blood Ban

Compare other promises
As someone who was banned from donating blood for over 20 years, I support abolishing the blood ban.

Misc. topics

Financial Advice & Institutions

Compare other promises
I think Canada Post should start providing banking services.

Biography

My platform comes down to 1 word: solidarity. I stand in solidarity with workers, the marginalized, and the environment.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
Lethbridge and area needs a representative who isn’t distracted by party politics, who will worry only about representing the people, not the party.
