Born and raised in Calgary, with a sprawling family back in Saskatchewan, where farming and big meals defined my childhood. My parents moved to Calgary for the opportunities it provided them, but also for the future it would provide for their children. And they were right.
My parents didn’t have money for university, yet with their support I worked through it, and got as many scholarships as I could. After my first degree I got another one in Education, and then my own classroom, always inspiring a new generation of passionate learner.
For 15 years I have been teaching young teens to aspire to be not only great writers and thinkers, but active citizens in the world being created around them. I currently work at Connect Charter School, engaging youth from every walk of life, and through every form of struggle. I’m known as Humanities Teacher, Debate Coach, Badminton and Running Coach, Budget Manager, Policy Adviser, and trusted colleague. And it is through teaching, and my adopted sons, that I found a desire to enter politics.
We all need a sustainable future, for my child and every Albertan. A robust and diverse economy, encouraged by global investment and local expertise. As Albertans, we are a community that needs to support and respect our entrepreneurs, our strong business community, our cultural heritage, and of course, our taxpayers. I support, above all else, a balanced budget, and a plan that sustains a strong Alberta for future Albertans. I do this for the 800+ students that have moved through my classroom, and my sons who can be proud to call themselves Albertan.
And of course, as a Social Studies teacher, I strongly support the need for debate and conversation, which can be done over coffee or a pint at anyone’s convenience. I look forward to meeting you.
