Jagmeet Singh was born in Scarborough, Ontario, and spent some of his childhood in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. He grew up mostly in Windsor, Ontario.

That’s just one of the reasons why he wants to help others. Jagmeet decided to run for office because he saw that just helping people as a lawyer know their rights wasn’t enough to make their lives truly better. Too many government choices were hurting people more, rather than helping them get ahead. It was time to do something.

As Leader of Canada’s NDP, Jagmeet doesn’t answer to the powerful. He fights for people. In the pandemic, Jagmeet has won more help for millions of Canadians. As Prime Minister, he’ll do what Justin Trudeau won’t do: make the ultra-rich pay for the recovery – and deliver on the things that people need: affordable pharmacare, dental care, housing, cellphone bills, post-secondary education. He'll also keep fighting for sick pay for workers, clean water for all First Nations communities, and real climate action. Jagmeet is fighting for a future we can all look forward to – more affordable, equal, hopeful and secure.

Jagmeet and his partner, Gurkiran Kaur, were married in 2018 and have made Burnaby their home. Jagmeet spends most of his spare time with family, cooking and biking with Gurkiran, his brother Gurratan and his family, and his mom and dad.
