This is a page from the 2019 Canadian general election.
I, like many Canadians, am fed up with the state of politics in Canada. We need to inject some common-sense reforms to make life easier for citizens accessing government services, easier for businesses to plan and invest in Canada and less expensive for taxpayers to fund.
Environment, Climate Change, & Energy
Carbon pricing
Chevy Johnston's promise
Abolish the Liberal government’s carbon tax and leave it to provincial governments to adopt programs to reduce emissions if they want to.
Emissions targets
Chevy Johnston's promise
Withdraw from the Paris Accord and abandon unrealistic greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. Until major emitters (China, India, US) are on board, Canada's best use of resources is to focus on R&D and contribute clean energy technology to the world.
Fossil fuel subsidies
Chevy Johnston's promise
We will eliminate all corporate subsidies including to the energy sector.
Freshwater
Chevy Johnston's promise
Prioritize implementing practical solutions to make Canada’s air, water and soil cleaner. Fresh water will be one of our most valuable commodities in my lifetime and we need clear legislation regarding use, contamination and sale of fresh water.
Major energy projects
Chevy Johnston's promise
We will reassert federal jurisdiction over pipelines construction by invoking section 92(10) of our Constitution, whereby Parliament can declare any project to be for the general advantage of Canada. We will then approve projects at the federal level as necessary.
Threats from climate change
Chevy Johnston's promise
Climate change is happening. We need to accept that it will and devote our resources to preparing for the uncertainty that it will bring rather than pretending we can prevent it by slightly reducing our 1.6% of global GHG emissions.
Human Rights
Ban on blood donation
Chevy Johnston's promise
I would advocate to repeal the Voluntary Blood Donations Act which is the reason for our chronic blood and plasma shortage and why we have to import a significant percent of those products from the United States.
Immigration, Refugees, & Borders
Economic immigration
Chevy Johnston's promise
Reduce the immigration target to 150,000/year to match private sector, full time job creation so that we are not importing unemployment. Adjust this target according to economic circumstances.
