Biography
Clint has the experience you want to represent the riding.
My name is Clint Lambert, and I am your next MLA for Nechako Lakes.
I was born at the Burns Lake hospital and have lived on the Southside my entire life, other than two years I spent in Norway.
My wife, Deanna, and I have been married for 25 years, and we have raised our six children here - five boys and one girl.
For the past eight years, I have represented Electoral Area E (Francois/Ootsa Lake Rural) as a Director with the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako. I was acclaimed in 2018 and again in 2022, and I have recently been acclaimed to serve another four-year term. If elected as your MLA for Nechako Lakes, I will step down from that position.
What first drove me to run for local government was the 2018 wildfire season. I spent months fighting fires alongside local people and became extremely frustrated with the lack of resources and the way our rural communities were being treated. After the fires, I helped organize a community meeting where we basically said, “We need to get our heads together and figure out how we make sure our community never has to go through this unprepared again”.
That meeting led to the creation of the Chinook Emergency Response Society (CERS). I was involved in getting it started and have remained closely involved ever since, although my position with the Regional District prevented me from serving on its board. CERS has grown into a community-led emergency preparedness organization with equipment, training, communications and volunteers throughout our area.
Emergency preparedness has continued to be a priority for me as an Area Director. During my time at the Regional District, I have helped secure three new fire trucks for our local volunteer fire department and have worked on other emergency-response initiatives, including proposed emergency helipads on the Southside.
I believe strongly that your community is what you make it. If something isn't working, I would rather bring people together and find a way to fix it than sit around complaining about it.
During my eight years at the Regional District, I have served on numerous committees and have been Chair of the Rural/Agriculture Committee. My work has included agriculture, forestry, rural services, emergency preparedness, connectivity, regional transit and health services. I currently serve on several RDBN committees and the
Stuart-Nechako Regional Hospital District Board and have represented the Regional District on outside organizations and committees.
I was also involved with the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance (RBA). After we secured the funding from the Province, the three regional districts had to sit down and work out how their portion would be divided. I represented the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako in those negotiations and was able to negotiate a very healthy share of that funding for our Regional District.
In our most recent budget, I was the only Electoral Area Director at the Regional District who was able to reduce taxes for my constituents while maintaining services.
I also have strong roots in agriculture. I am a third-generation rancher and have been involved with the cattle industry for more than 25 years (but mostly since I was born). I am currently President of the Lakes District Cattlemen's Association, a director with our regional cattlemen's organization, and sit on the Land Stewardship Committee with the BC Cattlemen's Association.
I have also been appointed to the Forest and Range Practices Advisory Council and am involved in work with the Province relating to forestry, range policy and fire mitigation. Some of that work is subject to confidentiality requirements, so I am unable to discuss the details.
My background isn't only in agriculture and local government. I started working in forestry right out of high school as a skidder operator. I later went to work at Cheslatta Forest Products, where I worked my way into the millwright trade and completed a four-year apprenticeship. On May 16, 2007, I received my Red Seal certification as a Millwright.
After the mill shut down, I went back to farming while continuing to work for different people in the forest industry.
Eventually, Deanna and I started Tatalrose Trucking Co., which works in trucking and heavy equipment.
We continue to operate our family farm, Lambert Livestock, and Deanna owns and operates Tatalrose Corner Store & Custom Meats. Together we employee about 15 members of our community. We decided to buy the store after it had remained closed for many years after it burnt down in 2018. Giving it back to the community was important to us. Deanna has done an amazing job getting it up and running and it has helped the economy in this area and provided a service with the restaurant, grocery store, gas station, feed room, and butcher shop.
Community involvement has always been part of our family's life. I have been a 4-H beef leader, and I have coached the junior boys basketball team at Lakes District Secondary School for the past 11 years.
The 2018 fires also changed my relationship with the three First Nations in Electoral Area E. Working through that emergency opened doors and helped us develop relationships that have continued ever since. We meet regularly to talk about what our communities need and where we can work together to solve problems. Those relationships have become an important part of my work as Area Director.
My roots in this riding run deep. Deanna was born and raised in Vanderhoof, where her family has a long history in the valley as early settlers, and we have spent our married life raising our family, farming and building businesses here on the Southside.
Our children have grown up working alongside us on the farm and in our businesses. A couple of our boys are planning to take over the farm someday - something I am very proud of.
I have spent most of my life working in forestry, agriculture, the trades, trucking and small business, and the last eight years representing rural residents in local government. I know what it is like to make payroll, deal with government regulations, operate equipment, fight fires, raise cattle and try to keep businesses operating in a rural northern community.
I am very passionate about helping the Nechako Lakes be everything it can be. I will enjoy the time in Victoria fighting for our rights as well as meeting with you all in your areas at local events, regional and municipal meetings.
I would like the opportunity to take my experience and passion to Victoria and represent the people of Nechako Lakes!
