The Mayor leads Council, and is the head of municipal government. They chair and vote in Council meetings, and represent Council. You elect only one.
The Council represents the community, and votes on bylaws and resolutions on subjects such as zoning, budgets, municipal regulations, municipal services, and property taxes. You elect 8 councillors.
The Saanich School Board (SD63) runs schools in the northern part of the District of Saanich. It makes decisions to do with schools, like where resources will be spent, creating new programmes, and school policies. Residents in the part of Saanich the school board covers elect 2 of its 7 trustees. (The remaining trustees are elected by residents of Sidney and the other Saaniches.)
The Greater Victoria School Board (SD61) runs schools in the southern part of the District of Saanich. It makes decisions to do with schools, like where resources will be spent, creating new programmes, and school policies. Residents in the part of Saanich the school board covers elect 2 of its 9 trustees. (The remaining trustees are elected by residents of other municipalities in Greater Victoria.)
