Biography
Kat Eddy is a community leader, Executive Director, and current publicly elected School District Trustee. She serves as the Executive Director of both the Campbell River Community Literacy Association and Opportunities Community Services Society, organizations dedicated to supporting individuals facing barriers to self-advocacy and access to literacy. With nearly two decades of leadership in community development and education, Kat has built a reputation for turning complex challenges into opportunities for equity and empowerment. In public service, she has been elected twice as a school trustee, serving as vice-chair and past chair of her district, as well as currently president of the Vancouver Island School Trustees Association. Across every role, she has brought people together, led with humility, and turned vision into action.
Her personal journey, from raising a child as a single parent in subsidized housing to becoming a recognized voice in public service, grounds her work in empathy, humility, and determination. Fiercely proud of her Campbell River home and shaped by the truths of this land, she is deeply committed to amplifying the voices of those too often silenced. Having witnessed firsthand the struggles of families navigating poverty, systemic barriers, and limited access to education, Kat believes in the power of story, conversation, and human connection to create lasting change. Her leadership is rooted in a simple belief: that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and the chance to realize their full potential, free from barriers they did not create.
Reason for running
High-quality public education is fundamental to our future. Every child deserves to be recognized for their unique gifts. I believe that we accomplish this by creating a strong sense of belonging within our school communities and providing the support and opportunities children need to reach their full potential.
Building lifelong learners begins with strong foundations in literacy and numeracy. By creating meaningful opportunities for students to learn, grow, explore their strengths, and discover their passions, we help prepare them to become the leaders, innovators, and visionaries of tomorrow. Our schools must be student-centred, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse strengths, needs, and experiences of every child.
I believe good governance and strong advocacy are essential to achieving this vision. As trustees, we have a responsibility to listen to students, families, staff, rights holders, and our broader community. We are tasked to make thoughtful, informed decisions, and to advocate for the resources and supports our schools need to do this important work.
I am proud of what we have accomplished together over the past eight years and deeply grateful for the privilege of bringing the voices and experiences of our community to the governance table. I also know there is more work to do. I believe we can build on what we have achieved—continuing to improve student achievement, strengthen relationships, advance equity, and create learning environments where every child feels safe, valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
