My Core Philosophy: The Shareholder Mindset

Municipal government is not an abstract corporation, and City Council is not an isolated board of directors. Every resident and property owner in Kamloops is an active shareholder in our community.

When you pay property taxes, utility fees, and business levies, you are investing hard-earned capital into the operation and future of this city. In return, you deserve a measurable return on that investment: safe streets, reliable infrastructure, clean parks, transparent decisions, and a local government that respects your voice rather than taking your compliance for granted.

To bring this vision to life, my approach to governance rests on three foundational commitments:

1. Professionalism & Teamwork Over Ego

In municipal government, there are no party whips or party lines to force alignment. Real leadership means bringing emotional maturity, executive discipline, and active listening to the council table. It means knowing how to debate tough issues vigorously without personal attacks, building consensus with fellow councillors, and maintaining a high standard of decorum so that City Hall functions as a high-performing team focused entirely on community outcomes.

2. Disciplined Financial Stewardship

City Hall does not have a revenue problem; it has a responsibility for prioritization and efficiency. Every line item in our municipal budget must be scrutinized with common sense. Treating taxpayers like shareholders means challenging departments to find operational efficiencies, eliminating wasteful spending habits, and ensuring that major long-term capital borrowing goes directly to the voters for true assent rather than through procedural shortcuts.

3. Proactive, Neighborhood-Centered Safety

A thriving city starts with safe streets, secure business districts, and clean public spaces. Effective community safety requires a firm, practical approach: enforcing strict standards on social service operators through binding agreements, rapidly cleaning up public parks and trails, supporting grassroots neighbourhood Block Watch programs, and actively holding provincial agencies accountable for delivering real mental health and addiction medical facilities.
