Patrick Johnstone (he/him) has been showing up for New West for 20 years as a volunteer and community leader. An environmental geoscientist, Patrick got involved with local government after advocating for better environmental policy and safer transportation in the city.

Elected Mayor in 2022 after two terms on council, Patrick forged partnerships with senior levels of government and community organizations to deliver hundreds of new affordable housing units, protect renters, meet legislated housing requirements, support arts and cultural organizations in the city, and advance work on urban reforestation.

He’s proud to work in a community that supports helping the city’s most vulnerable and where residents show up for public engagement and community events alike. Through uncertain times and economic challenges, strong public services and community connections are more important than ever, and are what make New West one of the most livable cities in Canada.
