Biography

from their website

I pride myself as being a Community minded person, I recently helped to revitalize local Coal Dust Days by organizing a new committee, which I've been a member of past two years. Our summer festival has grown immensely the past 2 years and we are looking at expanding this upcoming summer.

My mom, Mary O'Quinn was a town councillor in New Waterford for many years. She was the longest serving female Councillor in the history of New Waterford. Politics is in my blood and I'm always there to help anyone in need.

For the past four I have represented District 11 as CBRM Councillor. Prior to this I worked as a barber and ran the local town paper the Community Press before it was shut down a few years ago. The Community Press was in existence for 28 years.

I've Also worked at Cape Breton Residential Society for 19 years as a Direct Care Worker.

I love my community and have volunteered for over 30 years with many different organizations as well as coaching local sports teams for 30+ years. I've worked closely with all service organizations in our area to lend a hand for any of their events. I've been volunteering at Coal Bowl for well over 30 years as well

The past four years I take pride in getting our local youth involved with volunteering. We've had youth volunteer at our comfort centre after Fiona, shovel out more than 230 seniors after our blizzard last winter, help out with Coal Dust Days, town cleanups and many other projects as well.

As Councillor I've also run a winter coat campaign the past four which has grown from 95 winter coats in year one to well over 600 last winter. This year's campaign kicked off this past week.

I've also set up community food cupboards around our community including one at the library to help with our food insecurity issues in our community. To help seniors I partnered with Shelly McLellan Chair of Combined Christmas Giving to start a fund for seniors in need of oil and groceries. On two years we gave out over $27,000 in heating oil to seniors in our area as well as many grocery gift cards.
