Kathleen Burton

Kathleen Burton is a community leader known for developing and guiding strategic vision to achieve organizational goals. Burton is the executive director of Community Options for Children and Families, formally the executive director of Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary

Burton is a respected not-for-profit leader in the region who also gives back to her community through her marketing and communications consulting. Burton volunteers for the Greater Victoria NatureHood Committee and as a community liaison as Part of the Ace Team to the Saanich Police Department. She was on the Saanich Parks, Trails and Recreation Advisory Committee for two years. In 2015, she put her chin on the line learning how to box for a charity boxing match, earning her the bragging rights of ranking third in BC in both the feather and ultra feather light classes. From 2014 to 2018, Burton was part of a team on the Ride to Conquer Cancer, pedalling 150 kilometres from Vancouver, BC to Washington state.

Kathleen’s previous board experience includes chair of the Governance Committee and member of the executive of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce board of directors; chair of the Membership Committee for the Tourism Victoria board of directors; chair of the Governance Committee for the Victoria Esquimalt Harbour Society; member of the national and local chapter boards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, chair and committee director of Greater Victoria National Philanthropy Day events; and advisory member of the National Shell Environment Fund. Burton was also a business mentor in the Prodigy Group’s Mentorship Program through the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

Giving back is essential to me; serving my community is but one reason I want to run for Saanich Council and the CRD. I'm honoured to have this opportunity to give back. Serving in an inclusive community and region as your elected official will be a privilege.

With a reputation for involvement with the local business community and a dedicated commitment to the same, she believes strategic partnerships encourage businesses to flourish. She believes strongly that when we come together to work in partnership, we not only build community but our organizations benefit and achieve remarkable success.

Kathleen is a well-respected not-for-profit leader in the region, and Kathleen gives back to her community. She believes if she is to ask the community to volunteer or donate their time, she should first do just that. Kathleen offers a unique blend of executive and not-for-profit insight, comprehensive team building, and operational improvement in her capacity as a Governor on the Royal Roads Board of Governors. She also supports local community efforts such as the Saanich Police Department and the Greater Victoria NatureHood. She was the lead writer and project manager of the NatureHood map distributed throughout Greater Victoria during the pandemic. From 2019 – 2021 she also served on the Saanich Parks, Trails and Recreation Advisory Committee.

Her previous board experience includes, but is not limited to being, Chair of the Governance Committee and member of the Executive while on the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Board, Chair of the Membership Committee while with then Tourism Victoria, Chair of the Governance Committee for the Victoria Esquimalt Harbour Society, AFP Association of Fundraising Professionals, National Board and local chapter boards. Chair and Committee Director of Greater Victoria National Philanthropy Day events, and finally, she was an advisory member of the National Shell Environment Fund. In addition, Kathleen was proud to be a business mentor as part of the Prodigy Group’s Mentorship program ran through the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. 

Kathleen is the proud mother to her daughter, Jess, son, Jacob and stepson, Keaton.
