Biography

from their website
Margaret Elizabeth Smith (nee Harvey) is a retired teacher and an active member of Immanuel United Church. She’s dedicated her life to building caring communities that support families and makes sure young people have a chance to succeed.

Margaret has worked tirelessly to ensure young people in Manitoba have good opportunities to learn. Alongside her work in the classroom, Margaret has served on provincial and national education boards, helping to support teachers and improve education. She knows that we can build fairer education opportunities for young people and give everyone a chance to start their careers without the burden of thousands of dollars in student debt.

Through her involvement in her church congregation, Margaret has always found ways to support everyday people and build a stronger community. Throughout the pandemic, when Justin Trudeau left families and small businesses behind, Margaret saw our community come together and take care of one another. She knows that Canada’s pandemic recovery needs to deliver the services you need. That is why Margaret will step up and make sure we are investing in good jobs, sustainable agriculture, and rural internet connectivity in Selkirk–Interlake–Eastman. She believes that good health services should be available in every community and that everyone should be able to access dental, vision, and prescription medication with their health card – not their credit card.

Alongside her husband Rob, Margaret has worked as a beekeeper and farm operator in Ashern. She is passionate about conservation and protecting our wildlife, and she’ll ensure we tackle the climate crisis with bold action and investments in sustainable jobs.

Margaret has always put her family and her community first. She’s ready to listen to families and everyday people and fight for you as your Member of Parliament in Selkirk–Interlake–Eastman.
